Papercraft

Turn your own audio into additive, spectral, granular or sampler sources

Papercraft has four sources, and each one combines additive, spectral, granular, sampler and virtual-analog engines. Drop in a WAV or AIFF file and it resynthesises the audio as additive, spectral, granular or sampler data, with root note and tempo detected. You morph between the sources four ways and start from 263 factory presets in 17 categories.

What it does

  • 600 partials per voice

The additive engine runs up to 600 partials per voice. Three effect units reshape their levels, their tuning and the output.

  • Spectral and granular in one source

Spectral resynthesis comes with 11 spectral effects. The granular engine makes grains from 2 to 230 ms long, with up to eight taps.

  • A multisample sampler

The sampler handles zones, groups, round robin, keyswitches, release triggers and seven loop modes.

  • Five filters, 39 types

Each source has three filters in series or parallel, and two main filters follow. All five offer the same 39 types.

  • Ten modulators on every knob

Choose from 16 each of LFOs, AHDSR envelopes, multi-segment envelopes, 128-step sequencers and envelope followers. The perform section adds 8 knobs, two XY pads and a pad that morphs between 8 snapshots.

  • Effect racks and arpeggiators

Five racks hold 19 effect types, including three convolution reverbs. Each source can run its own arpeggiator, with a 128-step pattern editor.

Good to know

  • The import browser shows a file's waveform but does not play an audio preview.
  • It imports WAV and AIFF audio. Instrument files from other samplers do not load.
  • The spectral engine sounds 1,024 samples late at 44.1 and 48 kHz, and Papercraft does not report that delay to the host.

System requirements

  • macOS 11 or later
  • Apple silicon or Intel Mac
  • Formats: AU, Standalone
  • A host that loads Audio Units or VST3 plug-ins, for the plug-in versions
