Scribble

Draw a wave for each of 11 effects and split any of them into three bands.

Scribble chains 11 effects and drives each one with an LFO wave you draw over a live oscilloscope. Reorder the chain by dragging, split any effect into low, mid and high bands, and trigger waves from the host clock, MIDI notes or audio transients. It comes with 51 factory presets in 14 categories.

What it does

  • 11 effects in any order

The chain holds volume, filter, pan, width, time and stutter, noise, bit crush, drive, chorus/flanger/phaser, reverb and pitch. Drag to reorder it.

  • Three bands per effect

Split any effect at draggable Linkwitz-Riley crossovers. Each band gets its own wave, depth, envelope follower and bypass.

  • Synced, free or played from MIDI

Lock waves to the host from 8 bars to 1/64, run them free from 0.01 to 40 Hz, or follow the last MIDI note's pitch. Restart them on MIDI notes or on input or sidechain transients.

  • 8 wave slots, switched live

Each lane and band holds 8 waves. MIDI notes C to G switch between them while the track plays.

  • Draw on the oscilloscope

Edit waves over an LFO-locked oscilloscope with point, pencil, line and shape tools on a 1 to 64 step grid. 21 library shapes repeat x2 to x16.

  • Four pitch algorithms

Shift up to 24 semitones either way with phase vocoder, formant-preserving PSOLA, short-grain or long-grain, plus formant shift. Noise and reverb are synthesised, so nothing needs downloading.

Good to know

  • Some pitch algorithms delay the output by about 43 ms. Scribble reports that latency to the host for compensation.
  • MIDI triggers and wave switching need a DAW that sends MIDI to effect plug-ins.

System requirements

  • macOS 11 or later
  • Apple silicon or Intel Mac
  • Formats: AU, VST3, Standalone
  • A host that loads Audio Units or VST3 plug-ins, for the plug-in versions
