Skitter

Trigger tempo-synced stutter programs from MIDI keys or let them run with the transport.

Skitter slices and replays the audio on its track whenever you press a key. Each of its 332 factory programs animates any of 83 parameters along drawn curves and runs the sound through up to 11 effects. Play it from a keyboard, or switch to Auto mode and it runs the selected program whenever the transport plays.

What it does

  • 332 programs in 16 banks

Six folders cover beats, cinematic, transitions, vocals, mix and master, and templates. Drag a program onto a MIDI key to assign it.

  • A curve for every control

Each control stays fixed, moves from start to end, or follows a curve you draw. Snap nodes to note values or pitches, and play curves at 0.25x to 4x.

  • 11 effects in any order

The chain has distortion with 19 types, lo-fi, chorus, comb, reverb, flanger, phaser, lowpass, tape stop, highpass and delay. Reverb and delay tails ring out or cut on release.

  • From repeats to audio-rate pitch

Stutter rates run from a 1/2 note up into audio rate. Six quantise modes, gate width and tail shape each repeat.

  • Starts and stops on the grid

Quantise the start from 1/64 note to one bar, or start at once. Five release modes, palindrome and freeze decide how a program ends.

  • A setup page for your DAW

Skitter detects the host and shows its MIDI side-chain routing. A look-ahead limiter and a global filter on pitch bend sit in the output stage.

Good to know

  • In MIDI mode it plays one program at a time, and the last key pressed wins.
  • To play it from a keyboard, your DAW has to send MIDI to the effect, usually through a side chain. Auto mode needs no keyboard.

System requirements

  • macOS 11 or later
  • Apple silicon or Intel Mac
  • Formats: AU
  • A host that loads Audio Units or VST3 plug-ins, for the plug-in versions
