Tuckaway

Browse four video platforms and save the clip on screen to your Mac with ⌘D.

Tuckaway is a browser with tabs for four video and social platforms. When a video plays, press ⌘D and it downloads, including the clip currently playing in a short-video feed. Files land in one folder per platform inside Downloads, and you can change the location.

What it does

  • One tab per platform

Switch platforms with ⌘1 to ⌘4. Each tab keeps its own page, and your logins are shared and stay signed in.

  • ⌘D saves what is playing

Tuckaway finds the video on screen and downloads it, also in short-video feeds where the clip changes with every swipe.

  • Right-click or paste links

Right-click a video or a link to one and choose Download This Video. ⇧⌘D takes one or more pasted URLs at once.

  • Downloads panel

Follow progress, cancel, retry, show a file in Finder or read the log. Double-click a finished download to play it.

  • Files that play on Apple devices

Downloads prefer H.264 and AAC so they play on every Apple device. Switch to the highest available quality in Settings.

  • Downloads that need a login

Some platforms allow downloads only when you are logged in. Tuckaway passes your browser cookies to the downloader in a temporary file, and you can turn this off.

Good to know

  • Downloads run through yt-dlp and ffmpeg, which you install separately.
  • When a platform changes its site, downloads can fail until you update yt-dlp.
  • Download only content you have the right to save, and follow each platform's terms.

System requirements

  • macOS 15 or later
  • Mac with Apple silicon
  • yt-dlp and ffmpeg, installed with Homebrew (brew install yt-dlp ffmpeg)
