Amberlight

A 16-voice analog-modelling poly synth with two step sequencers and 313 presets

Amberlight is a polyphonic synth with two oscillators per voice and a 4-pole filter that self-oscillates at full resonance. The advanced pages hold a 32-step notes sequencer, an arpeggiator and a modulation mixer with 54 destinations. It comes with 313 factory presets and six step-by-step tutorials.

What it does

  • Two oscillators, rendered at 2x

Each voice has two free-running band-limited oscillators with cross modulation and two-way sync. They run at twice the sample rate and pass through a 79-tap half-band decimator.

  • 4-pole filter with two slopes

The zero-delay-feedback filter switches between -12 and -24 dB and self-oscillates at full resonance. A 6 dB/oct high-pass filter is there as well.

  • Voices that differ slightly

Choose one of three analog variation modes, or set six trimpots per voice by hand for pitch, pulse width, envelope, cutoff, resonance and modulation.

  • Notes sequencer, mod sequencer, arpeggiator

The 32-step notes sequencer has 15 scales, accent and glide, and a second 32-step sequencer drives three modulation destinations. The arpeggiator has 7 modes over 1 to 4 octaves.

  • Modulation mixer with 11 sources

Two extra LFOs with seven waves feed a mixer with 11 sources and six operations. Velocity, aftertouch, mod wheel and key tracking each get a Bezier response curve.

  • Three effect slots and four macros

Pick from 11 effects, including reverb, delay, chorus, compressor and a 5-band EQ, and run the slots in series or parallel. Any control can join one of four renamable macros.

Good to know

  • Polyphony stops at 16 voices, and unison stacks 2 to 8 of them.
  • Sound comes from the two modelled oscillators per voice. Amberlight does not play samples.

System requirements

  • macOS 11 or later
  • Apple silicon or Intel Mac
  • Formats: AU, VST3, Standalone
  • A host that loads Audio Units or VST3 plug-ins, for the plug-in versions
