Keel

Four oscillators with 8-voice unison, two ladder filters, an arpeggiator and seven effects

Keel is a polyphonic virtual analog synth with four oscillators in two parts. Each oscillator stacks up to 8 stereo unison voices, and two self-oscillating ladder filters shape the result. An arpeggiator with a 16-step sequencer, seven master effects and 64 factory presets are built in.

What it does

  • Aliasing below -90 dB

Each oscillator has 8 waveforms from band-limited wavetables. Aliasing measures below -90 dB.

  • Up to 8 unison voices per oscillator

Set detune, stereo, pan, phase, invert and retrigger per oscillator. At 16-note polyphony that is up to 512 oscillators at once.

  • Two ladder filters

    Low-, band- and high-pass at 12 or 24 dB/oct on a zero-delay-feedback 4-pole ladder. The ladder saturates and self-oscillates.

  • 13 sources, 67 destinations

Two amp envelopes, two mod envelopes and two LFOs with 10 waves, including the Lorenz and Rossler chaos shapes.

  • Arpeggiator with a 16-step sequencer

17 arp modes over 1 to 4 octaves at rates from 8/1 to 1/64. The sequencer sets tie, transpose and velocity per step.

  • Seven master effects

Distortion with 5 types at 4x oversampling, a 6-stage phaser, chorus/flanger, EQ, ping-pong delay, FDN reverb and compressor. Right-click any control to MIDI-learn it.

Good to know

  • Polyphony goes up to 16 notes.
  • The factory library holds 64 presets in 4 banks.

System requirements

  • macOS 11 or later
  • Apple silicon or Intel Mac
  • Formats: AU, VST3, Standalone
  • A host that loads Audio Units or VST3 plug-ins, for the plug-in versions
