Kitbash

Drum sampler with a 128-cell grid, six playback engines and eight stereo outputs

Kitbash lays a kit out on a grid of up to 128 cells, each with velocity layers, round robin and its own effects chain. Six engines play the samples, among them four vintage sampler emulations, granular time-stretch and tempo-locked slices. It imports programs from other samplers, and its factory library has 450 samples from 199 instruments in 13 kits.

What it does

  • A grid from 2x8 to 8x16

Select several cells at once, fill them by drag and drop, swap them and colour them from a 16-colour palette.

  • Six playback engines

Choose a looping sampler, one of four vintage sampler emulations, streaming from disk, granular or waveform-aligned time-stretch, or tempo-locked slices.

  • Effects on every cell

Each cell has a reorderable chain with saturation, lo-fi, a filter/EQ with seven modes, three compressor types and a transient shaper. Four buses and the master add reverb, delay and inserts.

  • Flams, rolls and voice groups

Ten articulations include flam, drag, ruff, roll and buzz, plus MIDI echo and humanize. 128 voice groups handle voice limits and kill modes.

  • Edit samples inside Kitbash

Kitbash has a wave editor, a loop editor with four loop regions per layer and a velocity-layer mapping editor, all with undo.

  • Imports kits and sliced loops

It maps SFZ, SoundFont 2, EXS24, DLS, GigaStudio, Akai S5000/S6000/Z4/Z8 and MPC programs to cells and layers. REX2, REX and RCY loops load with their slices.

Good to know

  • All factory samples are synthesized, and Kitbash builds the library the first time it starts. For recorded drums, load your own samples or import a kit.

System requirements

  • macOS 11 or later
  • Apple silicon or Intel Mac
  • Formats: AU, VST3, Standalone
  • A host that loads Audio Units or VST3 plug-ins, for the plug-in versions
