Quarry

A sampler with a 64-slot rack, ten playback modes, scripting and 66 effects

Quarry loads up to 64 instruments into a rack of four pages and plays each in one of ten modes, including disk streaming, time-stretching, beat slicing and wavetable. You map zones, edit loops and slices, and extend instruments with a scripting language of 254 commands. On first launch it generates a factory library of 63 instruments, a multi-velocity piano, 120 groove MIDI files and 8 loop kits.

What it does

  • Opens the instruments you already have

Import SFZ, SoundFont 2, EXS24/Logic Sampler and DecentSampler instruments. REX/RX2, ACID WAV and Apple Loops arrive with tempo and slices, and FLAC, OGG, MP3, CAF, M4A and W64 audio loads too.

  • Wave and mapping editors

Each zone gets 8 loops, slices on a grid, zone envelopes and a destructive sample editor. The mapping editor handles crossfades, auto-spread and auto-mapping from file names.

  • Scripting with 45 factory scripts

The scripting language has 254 commands, callbacks and UI widgets. Arpeggiators, harmonizers and tuning scripts come ready, with 5 script slots per instrument and 5 for the multi.

  • Nine performance tools

Aftertouch, arpeggiator, chord builder, chords, humanizer, patterns, phrases, scale lock and velocity curve. Chords and phrases each have 100+ sets, and you can export the result as MIDI.

  • Routing for large setups

Every instrument has 16 buses, 8 send effects and 4 aux channels, with a routing matrix up to 16 x 16 and a surround panner. The plug-in has 16 stereo outputs.

  • MPE and 512 automation slots

Quarry reads MPE, RPN/NRPN and per-note controllers. It offers 512 host automation slots and MIDI learn with soft takeover.

Good to know

  • The standalone app merges all MIDI devices onto one input, so per-device ports B to D do not work there yet.
  • Some script controls (tables, XY pads, text fields, file selectors and mouse areas) do not yet send their callbacks from the performance view.
  • Encrypted commercial sample libraries do not load.

System requirements

  • macOS 11 or later
  • Apple silicon or Intel Mac
  • Formats: AU, VST3, Standalone
  • A host that loads Audio Units or VST3 plug-ins, for the plug-in versions
