Crosswind

Blend four oscillators with a joystick and step through waves in rhythmic sequences

Crosswind mixes 1, 2 or 4 oscillators on a joystick diamond and steps through waves in sequences of up to 127 steps. Performances layer up to 8 parts across key and velocity zones. It ships with 815 generated waves, 55 effect types and 850 factory performances.

What it does

  • Joystick mixing with a looping envelope

Each patch mixes 1, 2 or 4 oscillators on a joystick diamond. A 5-point mix envelope moves through the mix and can loop.

  • Wave sequences of up to 127 steps

Every step has its own wave, duration, crossfade, level and tuning. Sequences run from the host tempo or an internal clock.

  • Eight-part performances

Each part has its own key and velocity zones, MIDI channel, scale, voice mode and bus routing.

  • Two effect units, 55 types

Reverbs, delays, modulation, rotary speaker, pitch shifters, dynamics and vocoders, run in series or parallel.

  • Edit envelopes and steps by dragging

Graphical editors cover the mix envelope, the amp and modulation envelopes and each wave-sequence step, with handles for level, duration and crossfade.

  • 850 performances on 17 cards

Each card holds 50 performances, 35 patches and 32 wave sequences. The browser sorts by 16 categories and 16 tags, and three user cards take your own sounds.

Good to know

  • Crosswind does not import SysEx dumps from hardware synths, because those dumps reference ROM waves it does not contain.

System requirements

  • macOS 11 or later
  • Apple silicon or Intel Mac
  • Formats: AU, VST3, Standalone
  • A host that loads Audio Units or VST3 plug-ins, for the plug-in versions
